Zack Snyder was upfront about his intention to create completely distinct versions of his sci-fi tale before either of his Rebel Moon pictures had even been published. Part One of the two-part space opera, A Child of Fire, debuted on Netflix in December, and Part Two, The Scargiver, followed in April. The show is mostly based on the Seven Samurai series. However, they were the family-friendly 12A-rated edits that told Snyder's narrative in a manner that was appropriate for a larger age group. The director was upfront about his ambitions, however, stating that there would be a Director's Cut of the whole event that would have considerably longer runtimes and more intense content. We now know additional details of what that entails.
Snyder himself has announced that the Rebel Moon Director's Cut—both portions of which are scheduled for release on August 2—will be available for streaming starting that day. Additionally, those updated versions will have somewhat different names. The titles of the Director's Cut are now "chapters" as opposed to "parts," with Chapter One being "Challenge of Blood" and Chapter Two being "Curse of Forgiveness." The new titles, "Blood" and "Curse," allude to a darker tone; nevertheless, details on their modifications and runtimes have not yet been disclosed.
The official summary for the latest incarnations is as follows: Explore the mythology and craziness of Zack Snyder's epic science fiction story in Rebel Moon - Chapter One: Chalice of Blood and Rebel Moon - Chapter Two: Curse of Forgiveness. These chapters will leave you wanting more. A tranquil community on a moon in the furthest reaches of the space is besieged by the troops of the despotic Regent Balisarius in Snyder's director's cut. The people' last chance for survival is Kora (Sofia Boutella), a mystery woman who lives among them. Kora gathers a small group of warriors, including outsiders, rebels, peasants, and war orphans who are all driven by a desire for vengeance and atonement. She is tasked with gathering skilled combatants who would join her in mounting an impossible defense against the Motherworld. A new army of heroes is forged when the shadow of a whole Realm descends upon the most unlikely of moons.

It remains to be seen how Rebel Moon's Director's Cut gets accepted. Although Snyder's extended versions of Watchmen, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, and especially his "Snyder Cut" of Justice League are generally seen as better than the theatrical versions, the standard editions met with a mixed reaction from critics. We may all owe him an apologetic curse of forgiveness on August 2nd, but for now, we're going to enjoy a lovely, warm cup of blood.
